Does blood pressure medication cause weight gain?

I started taking medication for my high blood pressure a few months ago. Since then, I've noticed I'm gaining weight, even though my diet hasn't changed much. Could blood pressure medication be causing this weight gain?

My father just started taking BP tablets and has been feeling a bit bloated lately. Do these medications make everyone gain weight, or does it depend on the type?

Some BP drugs like beta-blockers can slow down your metabolism slightly or cause mild water retention. Talk to your doctor as they can easily switch you to a different class of medicine.

Weight issues are often linked to metabolism, just like in my thyroid condition. It is very important to get regular blood tests and consult your doctor before changing any BP dosage.

Drinking fresh bottle gourd (lauki) juice and walking daily helped my husband manage his weight while on BP meds. But please don't stop the prescribed medicines on your own.

I completely understand how stressful it is to watch your weight go up when you are trying to stay healthy. It is highly likely just mild fluid retention, so please don't panic.

My uncle had this issue with his BP meds and he felt really heavy. His doctor changed the tablet and advised him to reduce salt, and he was fine within weeks.
