Does bloating cause weight gain?

I often feel very bloated after meals, and I'm trying to understand its effect on my body. Can bloating really cause me to gain weight, or is it just temporary water retention?

Don't fall for internet detox drinks that promise to cure bloating weight. If bloating is chronic and painful, get a scan or visit a gastroenterologist to find the real cause.

It is completely normal to see the scale fluctuate by 1-2 kgs when you are bloated. It is simply water and gas retention, not actual fat tissue.

I literally look three months pregnant when I am bloated during my periods! It goes away entirely in a couple of days, so don't stress about the scale.

My daughter used to get very upset about her face looking puffy due to bloating. We realized cutting down processed food and drinking lukewarm water really helped her.

Yes, it shows as temporary weight gain because of fluid retention. Cut down on sodium for two days and you'll see the extra weight drop right off.

Just avoid drinking sodas and chewing gum, they trap a lot of air in the stomach. A simple 10-minute walk after meals does wonders for bloating.

I kept ignoring daily bloating thinking it was just gas, but it turned out to be a severe food intolerance. Please get a proper food allergy test if it happens daily.
