Does anti dandruff shampoo help hair grow?

Using anti-dandruff shampoo for my scalp issues helps with the flakes. But I'm also trying to grow my hair out a bit. Does anti-dandruff shampoo actually help with hair growth too, or is that a myth?

When I visited my dermatologist at the clinic, they clarified that anti-dandruff shampoo is only meant to clean the scalp of fungal build-up. It doesn't actually stimulate hair follicles directly for growth. Please consult a proper skin specialist to get a correct diagnosis for hair fall.

Be very careful with daily use of these medicated shampoos. I used a strong ketoconazole shampoo too often hoping for hair growth, and it ended up irritating my scalp so badly that my hair fall actually worsened. Please get a doctor's advice before experimenting like I did.

Honestly, with my 4 hours of sleep, my hair is falling out anyway! I tried using anti-dandruff shampoo thinking it would solve all my life problems, but my scalp just got super dry. It clears the flakes, yes, but don't expect it to magically grow a mane overnight.

Do not believe these YouTube videos claiming anti-dandruff shampoo grows hair. It is scientifically designed to target fungus, not to regrow hair. Go to a certified trichologist if you are facing thinning, otherwise you will just waste money and ruin your hair texture.

Look, if you have dandruff, it can cause itching which leads to scratching and hair breakage. Clearing the dandruff helps reduce that breakage, making it seem like your hair is growing. But for actual active hair growth, you need a proper diet and specific serums, not just shampoo.

My college-going daughter tried all these anti-dandruff hacks to make her hair longer, but it only made her hair dry like straw. Once we treated her dandruff with a mild doctor-prescribed shampoo, her scalp health improved and hair naturally looked better. Focus on keeping the scalp clean first.
