Does anemia make your hair fall out?

My hair has been falling out quite a lot lately, and I was recently told I have low iron levels. Can anemia make your hair fall out, or is this a separate issue I should be worried about?

Yes, absolutely, low iron is a major reason for severe hair thinning. Your hair roots need oxygen from iron to grow properly. Try drinking curry leaf tea and eating amla, but if the fall is very heavy, please consult a dermatologist soon.

Haan, it really does. I panicked like crazy last year when chunks of my hair were falling out, thinking it was some permanent balding issue. Turns out my ferritin was just very low, and once I took iron supplements for three months, the hair fall completely stopped.

I have been facing a lot of hair fall lately and my mom thinks I might be anemic. Does anyone know if taking basic iron supplements actually helps in stopping the hair fall? I am a bit scared to start taking any pills.

Beta, don't worry too much. In our days, we saw many young girls and boys face hair fall when their diet lacked iron. Eat green leafy vegetables, beetroot, and pomegranate daily. Once your blood levels improve, your hair strength will automatically come back.

Yes, medically speaking, iron deficiency stops oxygen from reaching your hair follicles, which puts them in the shedding phase. I track my nutrition on MyFitnessPal and realized my iron intake was very low. Getting a simple CBC and serum ferritin test will give you the exact picture.
