Does amlodipine besylate cause weight gain?

My doctor recently switched my blood pressure medication to Amlodipine Besylate. I'm concerned about weight gain as a side effect; does this medicine cause it? I've been working hard to maintain my weight.

I noticed some swelling in my ankles after starting amlodipine, which looked like weight gain. It was actually water retention, not real fat. Walking for 30 minutes daily and reducing salt in my food really helped clear it up.

Please don't worry too much. It does not usually cause actual fat gain, though mild fluid retention can happen sometimes. Hope you feel better soon.

Keep your mind positive and do not let fear of weight gain stress you. Our bodies are very resilient. Take your medicines with gratitude, eat fresh fruits, and take care of your health gently.

Beta, these modern medicines sometimes make the body hold onto water. To keep your body light, drink coriander seed water in the morning and avoid heavy, salty pickles. But keep taking your blood pressure medicine as the doctor prescribed.

At our age, even drinking water feels like it adds kilos, so blaming amlodipine alone is unfair! But seriously, it mostly just causes mild leg swelling. Just keep your feet up when sitting and you'll be fine.

Amlodipine doesn't change your metabolism to make you gain fat. Any minor weight change is usually just mild edema (water retention) in the legs. Watch your sodium intake and it will remain under control.
