Does allopurinol cause weight gain?

My doctor prescribed allopurinol for my condition, and I'm reading up on the side effects. I'm trying to manage my weight, so I was wondering, does allopurinol cause weight gain?

Allopurinol itself does not have any direct chemical link to weight gain based on clinical data. If you are noticing any weight changes, track your daily calorie intake and active steps on an app to see if there is a lifestyle shift happening.

Hey, don't stress too much about the weight thing! My dad has been taking this for his gout and his weight hasn't changed a bit. Just focus on getting your uric acid levels down and enjoy your regular walks.

Honestly, the only thing causing weight gain for me is my love for street food, not my medications! Allopurinol shouldn't affect your scale at all. Just watch those extra chole bhature cravings and you'll be perfectly fine.

As someone managing thyroid issues, I know how frustrating unexpected weight gain can be. If you are gaining weight while on Allopurinol, please get your thyroid and kidney function tests done just to rule out other medical issues.

My uncle takes this tablet and he hasn't put on any weight at all. It's probably just a myth, so chill and take your meds as prescribed by the doctor!

Don't believe random threads online claiming every prescription drug causes weight gain. Consult your prescribing physician directly to understand if there is any fluid retention or if it's just a general metabolism change.
