Does alcohol mouthwash cause cancer?

I use an alcohol-based mouthwash daily for fresh breath and oral hygiene. My friend recently told me she heard that regular use of such mouthwashes can cause cancer. Is this true or just a rumour?

Bro, even I saw some TikToks about this and got super freaked out! But honestly, I think it's mostly overhyped unless you are swallowing bottles of it. I just switched to alcohol-free mouthwash anyway because it burns way less.

My grandmother always recommended salt-water rinses or neem twigs for oral care. But when I asked our family dentist about these alcohol mouthwash reports, he said there is no solid proof of it causing cancer directly. Still, he suggested using alcohol-free ones to avoid dry mouth.

There is so much fear-mongering on the internet these days, it is better for our peace of mind to avoid worrying. If you feel uneasy using it, just switch to natural oils or herbal rinses. Keep your thoughts positive and take care of your health.

Don't believe every scary headline you read on WhatsApp groups or forums. Most studies don't show a direct link between mouthwash and oral cancer. Talk to a certified dentist who actually understands the science rather than worrying over internet rumors.

Oh god, I have been using an alcohol-based mouthwash twice a day for years and now I'm super stressed about this. Has anyone else's doctor actually told them to stop using it? I feel like throwing my bottle away right now.

The concern comes from acetaldehyde, which is a byproduct of alcohol. However, my dentist pointed out that the contact time in your mouth is too short to cause cellular mutation. She still recommends alcohol-free mouthwash because alcohol dries out saliva, which actually protects against bacteria.

I am too tired to even brush my teeth some nights, so mouthwash is my holy grail. If this is true, I am in big trouble! Jokes aside, I think switching to an alcohol-free one is an easy way to sleep peacefully without this anxiety.
