Does a knee replacement cure arthritis?

My doctor has suggested a knee replacement due to my severe arthritis, as the pain is becoming unbearable. I'm hopeful it will relieve my pain completely. Does a knee replacement truly cure arthritis in the joint, or does it just manage symptoms?

It basically swaps your squeaky, painful joint with a shiny new metal one, so the arthritis in that specific knee is gone! Just don't expect to run marathons the very next day. You still have to do your physio homework!

Knee replacement is highly effective for relieving severe pain, but remember, systemic arthritis might still affect other joints. Focus on proper post-surgery rehab to get back to work quickly.

When my mother had her surgery at Lilavati, the orthopaedic surgeon explained that replacing the joint cures the localized arthritis because the damaged bone ends are removed. However, maintaining a healthy weight is crucial to prevent wear on the new implant.

My father got both knees replaced last year. The painful bone-on-bone arthritis in those joints is completely gone, but the real key to success is doing physiotherapy daily for 3 months after surgery. Don't skip that.

The surgery really helps in restoring mobility and removing the constant pain, dear. Don't worry about it too much. Just make sure to choose a good surgeon and focus on the recovery exercises diligently.
