Does 10mg amitriptyline cause weight gain?

My doctor recently prescribed 10mg amitriptyline for my chronic headaches. I'm a bit concerned about side effects. Does this dose of amitriptyline usually cause weight gain, as I'm trying to manage my weight?

Don't worry, 10mg is a tiny baby dose! It won't magically make you gain weight unless it turns you into a midnight kitchen raider for sweets. Just keep some healthy snacks nearby and you will be completely fine!

At a very low dose like 10mg, which is typically prescribed for nerve pain or migraine prevention rather than depression, the risk of weight gain is quite low. My doctor explained that it can slightly increase appetite or cravings for carbs. Tracking your daily food intake can easily help manage this.

I was on 10mg for sleep and actually ended up gaining 5 kgs in two months because of severe bloating and water retention. Medication affects everyone very differently. If you start noticing rapid weight changes, please discuss alternative options with your doctor.

My mother was prescribed 10mg for her chronic neuropathic pain. She was worried about weight gain too, but her doctor reassured her that at this minimal dose, lifestyle changes can easily counter any mild appetite increase. She has been taking it for a year now with no change in her weight.

I have seen many people in our community ask about this. At 10mg, most people do not see major weight changes, but it can make you feel a bit sluggish or hungry in the evenings. Staying active with simple daily walks and drinking plenty of water really helps keep the weight stable.

I panicked so much when I read the side effects list of this medicine online! But my doctor told me 10mg is extremely mild. I have been on it for six months now for migraines, and my weight has remained exactly the same. Please don't stress.

My doctor gave me 10mg to help me sleep, and honestly, I am too tired to even cook, let alone gain weight! Jokes aside, it does make me crave sweet things right before I fall asleep, so I just have to hide the biscuits from myself.
