Do you sleep better next to someone you love?

My wife usually travels for work a few days every month. I find it so hard to get proper sleep when she's not here. Does sleeping next to a loved one actually improve sleep quality or is it just a psychological comfort?

For me, sleep quality is everything for muscle recovery. While sleeping next to my partner makes me feel relaxed and lowers my cortisol, sometimes their tossing and turning messes up my deep sleep. I usually balance it by finishing my workouts early so I'm completely exhausted anyway.

It definitely brings a sense of security which helps you drift off easily. But if you or your partner are struggling with chronic sleep issues, try adding a 30-minute evening walk together. Just make sure your doctor is okay with the light exercise first, it really helps relax the mind.

Ngl, it is the best feeling ever, feels so safe and cozy. But honestly sometimes my girlfriend steals the entire blanket and I wake up freezing at 3 AM. Still wouldn't trade it for sleeping alone though!

While emotional comfort definitely aids sleep, please remember that chronic snoring or gasping for air while sleeping is not normal. If your partner notices you struggling to breathe or choking at night, don't ignore it. It is best to get a proper sleep study done to rule out sleep apnea.

I totally get it, there is a special kind of peace when you are next to your favorite person. Your heart rate just slows down and you feel safe. Even after a super stressful day, just cuddling for five minutes makes me sleep so much better.

With my PCOS, my sleep cycle is already quite erratic and I get night sweats sometimes. Having my partner next to me helps calm my anxiety, which makes falling asleep easier. But I still have to be careful with my sleep hygiene and not rely only on comfort.

It is nice to have your spouse nearby, but sleep issues can sometimes hide bigger health problems. I used to ignore my poor sleep thinking it was just stress, until it turned out to be a severe blood pressure issue. Please see a doctor if your sleep quality remains bad despite having a comfortable environment.
