Do you need surgery for kidney stones?

My husband has been diagnosed with kidney stones, and he's in a lot of pain. We are exploring all treatment options. Does he necessarily need surgery for kidney stones, or are there other ways to treat them depending on their size?

It entirely depends on the size and location of the stone. At Max Hospital, my urologist clearly explained that stones under 5mm usually pass with medication, but larger ones need lithotripsy or laser. Please get an ultrasound and discuss the report with your doctor clearly.

Oh god, kidney stones sound so terrifying, I would honestly be panicking too. But from what I read, smaller stones often pass on their own with lots of water. Just monitor your pain levels closely and please keep in touch with a good doctor.

I completely understand how scary it feels when the doctor even mentions the word 'surgery'. I had sleepless nights when I had a stone last year, but it turned out I only needed IV fluids and some medicines to pass it. You are going to be absolutely fine, just take it step by step.

If the stone is small, drinking plenty of warm water and practicing gentle yoga like Ushtrasana can help flush it out naturally. However, always listen to your body and don't push yourself if there is severe discomfort. Let nature and medicine work together.

Drinking fresh banana stem juice is excellent for clearing small kidney stones naturally. But if you experience severe back pain, blood in urine, or vomiting, do not rely on home remedies. Go straight to the hospital as it could be a medical emergency.

Has anyone else felt this dull, continuous ache in their side? I am so scared that it might turn into a sharp pain and require sudden surgery. Did your doctors suggest waiting first, or did they go straight for surgery?

Never try to self-diagnose kidney stones because a blocked urinary tract can damage your kidneys permanently. Please get an ultrasound scan immediately to know the exact size of the stone. A doctor is the only one who can safely decide if you need surgery.

Bhaiyya, hamare yahan toh log patharchatta ke patte chabate hain aur khoob sara paani peete hain chote pathri ke liye. Lekin agar dard bahut jada ho aur peshab me takleef ho, toh turant doctor babu ko dikhana chahiye.

Dude, my hostel wingmate had kidney stones last semester and he was so stressed about missing exams for surgery. But the doctor just gave him some painkillers and told him to chug liters of water, and it passed in a week. No surgery needed at all!

Hey, don't stress too much, buddy! My uncle had a 6mm stone and he got rid of it just by drinking barley water and coconut water daily. Unless it is super big and hurting like crazy, surgery isn't always the first option. Just chill and keep drinking water!
