Do you have periods during pregnancy?

My friend told me that sometimes women can still get what looks like a period even after they are pregnant. Is it actually possible to have your regular periods during pregnancy, or is any bleeding a sign of something else?

In all my years, I have seen many young mothers get confused by this. It is physically impossible to have a regular period during pregnancy. Sometimes light spotting or implantation bleeding happens, but any proper bleeding is a warning sign, so please go see your doctor right away.

I totally get it, seeing any kind of bleeding when you are pregnant can be so frightening and confusing. To answer clearly, you cannot have a true menstrual period while pregnant. If you are experiencing any bleeding, please contact your doctor immediately to check on your baby's health.

Simple answer is no, a period during pregnancy is biologically impossible. If your partner is bleeding while pregnant, don't waste time looking up forums. Just book a quick appointment with her gynecologist to get a professional scan done.

I remember crying so much when I saw spotting during my pregnancy, thinking I was losing my baby. It turned out to be harmless, but it's true that you cannot have a normal period. It is an emotional roller coaster, so please talk to your doctor to ease your mind.

Biologically, menstruation stops completely during pregnancy because your body is maintaining the uterine lining for the fetus. Any vaginal bleeding during pregnancy is not a period and should be evaluated by a healthcare professional. Consulting your obstetrician is always the best path forward.

I am so anxious right now because I had some light bleeding even though my pregnancy test was positive. Is it really impossible to have a period? Has anyone else experienced spotting in their first trimester, and was everything okay with the baby?

Please be very cautious. My wife had bleeding in the first trimester, and the doctor said it was a serious complication that required immediate rest and medication. Never assume bleeding is just a 'period' during pregnancy; please consult your gynecologist immediately.

Nope, you definitely don't get periods during pregnancy! 😊 Sometimes there's light spotting due to hormonal shifts, but any actual bleeding means you should check in with your doctor just to be completely safe.
