Do weighted hula hoops work for weight loss?

I saw a reel of a woman using a weighted hula hoop for exercise, claiming it helped her lose weight around her belly. I've always loved hula hooping, so I'm interested. Do weighted hula hoops actually work for weight loss?

I used a weighted hula hoop for 20 minutes daily for two months. It is great for building core strength and coordination, but you won't lose weight unless you are also in a calorie deficit. Use it as a fun cardio addition, not a standalone solution.

With PCOS, finding a fun workout we can actually stick to is half the battle. The weighted hoop is very gentle on the joints and can be a nice, low-impact exercise. Just start with a lighter weight so you don't bruise your back.

I totally get it, standard cardio like running can be so boring and we just want something enjoyable to stay active. The weighted hula hoop is a lovely way to move your body without feeling like you are doing a chore. Give it a try!

My roommate bought one of those smart weighted hoops that clips around the waist. It is super noisy but actually quite fun to do while watching Netflix. Definitely burns some sweat if you keep at it for half an hour!

It is just another fitness trend popularized by TikTok and Instagram. While it does burn some calories, a brisk run or a solid HIIT session is far more efficient for fat loss. Buy it if you find it fun, but don't expect miracles.

Completely agree with the comments above, it's a great core workout. Just make sure to wear a thick t-shirt when starting out, as the weighted ball can sometimes hit your hips hard.
