Do they check for herpes during pregnancy?

I'm in my second trimester, and my doctor has ordered a lot of blood tests. I was wondering, do they check for herpes during pregnancy as a routine screening? I just want to be prepared for all the tests.

They don't always do it routinely unless you show symptoms or mention a history of exposure. My doctor told me to explicitly mention any past issues so they can plan a safe delivery and protect the baby.

It is not part of the standard first-trimester blood panel in most clinics. Best to ask your gynaecologist directly during your next checkup to add it if you have concerns.

Beta, they do many blood tests in the beginning, but for this, you should talk to your doctor clearly. Don't feel shy to tell them everything so your baby stays healthy and safe.

During my pregnancy, they did a general screening for major infections but this specific test wasn't automatic. I had to ask my doctor to explain the screening list to me.

Don't stress yourself out reading online. It is not a standard routine test, but doctors are very careful; just mention your medical history to them and let them guide you safely.

I totally get it, pregnancy makes you worry about every single test and infection. It is usually not tested automatically, so definitely have an open chat with your gynecologist to ease your mind.
