Do steroid injections cause hair loss?

Received a steroid injection a few weeks ago for my severe back pain. Since then, I've been noticing more hair falling out than usual. Can steroid injections cause hair loss as a side effect?

While systemic absorption of localized steroid injections is generally minimal, temporary hair thinning can occasionally occur due to physical stress on the body. It is highly advisable to discuss this with your specialist to understand if your specific dosage could be a factor.

I had a cortisone shot for my shoulder last year and didn't notice any hair fall. If you're busy, just track your hair fall for a couple of weeks after the shot. If it seems unusually high, drop a quick mail or message to your doctor.

Before you spend money on expensive anti-hairfall shampoos, check if you actually have any deficiency first. A basic iron and thyroid panel test costs under 600 rupees and is a much more practical way to find the real reason for hair loss.

I log all my symptoms on my health app and when I got a steroid shot for my joint, I didn't see any spike in hair fall. The app actually showed my sleep and stress levels were high, which is usually the real culprit behind sudden hair shedding.

Let's be realistic, a single localized steroid shot for joint pain or allergies is highly unlikely to cause major hair loss. Unless you are taking heavy oral steroids or multiple injections, there's no need to panic about going bald.

Since I have thyroid issues, I am always careful about hair loss. Sometimes we blame steroid shots, but it could be our thyroid levels fluctuating. It is always wise to get your TSH checked and discuss it with your physician.

People on internet forums love to link every little symptom to their medicines. Don't buy any expensive 'hair rescue' oils based on online advice. Talk directly to your dermatologist if you notice any unusual shedding.

I just finished a treatment involving steroid injections last month. I was also terrified of losing my hair, but honestly, my scalp is totally fine. Just focus on your recovery and don't stress.

Hey, chill out! A steroid injection is usually a quick local treatment and doesn't affect your hair at all. Don't stress too much, just pamper yourself with a nice head massage and relax.

Don't let these worries get to you. A short course or a single injection won't make your hair fall out overnight. Take care of your health first, let the joint or allergy heal, and the hair will take care of itself.

Dealing with PCOS has made me very cautious about hormonal changes and hair thinning. Steroid shots can sometimes temporarily affect our delicate hormonal balance. It is best to go slow and discuss these concerns with your gynecologist or doctor.
