Do statins cause weight gain?

Noticed I've been putting on weight recently, and I've been on statins for a while now for my cholesterol. Trying to control my diet, but it's not helping. Could the statins be causing this weight gain?

Before you stress about weight gain, please check if you can get your regular lipid profile tests in a package deal. It costs around 500 to 800 rupees in most local labs if you book in advance. Planning these tests every six months helps you track everything without breaking the bank.

My son was put on statins for his cholesterol and we were so worried about this too. Honestly, we didn't notice any sudden weight gain. Just keep an eye on their daily play and diet, it is very manageable.

Between my 3 AM office calls and zero sleep, I can't even tell if it's the statins or the coffee causing my weight issues. I am just holding on to dear life here. Let me know if you find a magic solution!

Honestly, I blamed my statins for weight gain but then I looked at my late-night delivery orders! Samosas and butter chicken are the real culprits here, not the tiny pill. Just balance your cravings thoda and you will be absolutely fine.

Please be very careful with statins and always report any weird symptoms to your cardiologist. I had some severe muscle pain along with a bit of weight fluctuations and my doctor had to change my brand immediately. Don't ignore these changes.

Don't believe these random WhatsApp forwards saying statins make you fat or ruin your health. Everyone's body reacts differently. Just sit down with your doctor and clear your doubts instead of worrying.

I can't say what happens medically, but I've been taking atorvastatin for two years now. My weight has stayed exactly the same at 74 kg. I just go for my regular evening walks.

Hey, don't worry too much! My uncle also had this fear when he started. He just started being a bit more active and watched his portion sizes, and he actually ended up losing weight. You've got this!

I was actually reading up on this because my dad just started his dose last week. Some articles say there is a tiny risk of blood sugar changes which might affect weight, but it seems rare. Let's see what the experienced folks here say.

Statins won't magically make you gain weight if your calorie intake is in check. Focus on getting 30 minutes of simple strength training or walking daily. Keep your protein clean and you can easily manage your body composition.
