Do statin drugs cause hair loss?

After starting statins a few months back for my cholesterol, lately my hair seems to be thinning quite a lot. I'm wondering if this medication could be the reason for the hair loss. It's making me very conscious, actually.

It is completely natural to feel stressed when you notice hair fall after starting a new medicine. While statins can rarely cause mild hair thinning, it is usually temporary. Please don't panic, and definitely talk to your doctor about this.

Sometimes other hormonal imbalances like thyroid issues can trigger hair loss while you are on statins. I suggest getting a complete thyroid profile and blood test done. Always discuss these test results with your doctor before concluding it is only due to statins.

While statins can sometimes cause hair loss, make sure your vegetarian diet has enough iron and protein. Lack of lentils, nuts, and seeds can also make your hair weak. Consult your doctor to see if you need any nutritional supplements.

Please do not stop your statins without medical supervision just because of hair fall. I once stopped my heart medication on my own due to a minor side effect, and my cholesterol levels shot up dangerously. Go for a proper checkup and let your cardiologist decide.

Honestly, between my late-night work shifts and my high cholesterol, I am losing sleep and hair anyway! Statins might play a small role, but stress is the bigger devil. Do consult your doctor before changing any pills.

My mother experienced some hair thinning after starting statins last year. She spoke to her doctor, who changed the brand and suggested a biotin supplement, which worked beautifully. Don't worry, just talk to your doctor about alternative options.

I had to start statins because of my deep love for butter chicken and street food! I did notice some hair thinning, but keeping my cholesterol in check is way more important. Maybe add some amla or curry leaves to your diet to support your hair naturally.
