Do pregnancy kicks hurt?

I'm in my third trimester, and my baby's kicks are getting quite strong now! Sometimes they make me gasp. Do pregnancy kicks typically hurt, or is this level of discomfort normal as the baby grows bigger?

I remember feeling so guilty because some of the late-pregnancy kicks actually hurt and made me cry, and everyone else kept saying how beautiful it is. It is completely okay to find them painful sometimes; you are not alone in feeling this way.

The kicks can get quite sharp near the third trimester as the baby gets bigger. Since I was managing thyroid issues during my pregnancy, I had to visit my doctor very frequently. Always mention these sensations to your doctor during your regular checkups just to be sure everything is normal.

In my experience, the early kicks in the second trimester just felt like gentle tickles or bubbles. But by the eighth month, those kicks got so strong they would sometimes startle me or hit my ribs, which was a bit uncomfortable but manageable.

Yes, late-stage kicks can definitely catch you off guard, especially when they land on your bladder or ribs! When it hurts, try changing your position, lying on your side, or gently rubbing your belly. It usually coaxes the baby to shift slightly and gives you instant relief.

Most of the time kicks are just uncomfortable, but if you feel a sudden, sharp, continuous pain rather than a normal kick, please don't ignore it. Having faced complications myself, I always advise expecting mothers to trust their gut and get checked by their gynaecologist if anything feels different.

My mother used to tell me that a very active baby is a sign of good health, so I shouldn't worry about the mild pain. But when the kicks got too sharp near my ribs, I asked my doctor just to be peaceful. She reassured me it is normal and suggested changing my sitting posture.
