Do polyps cause weight gain?

I recently had a colonoscopy, and they found some polyps which were removed. Since then, I've been feeling a bit off, and I feel like I've gained some weight. Could these polyps, even after removal, have been contributing to weight gain, or is it unrelated?

Honestly, there is no direct link between polyps and putting on weight. If you are talking about colon or gallbladder polyps, they don't have metabolic power to change your weight. Check your daily calorie intake and lifestyle instead of stressing about this.

Actually, polyps themselves don't directly cause weight gain. I had gallbladder polyps and asked my gastroenterologist this exact thing because I was gaining weight. He explained that hormonal imbalances or thyroid issues can sometimes happen alongside them, and that is what actually causes the weight shift. Better to get a full blood panel done.

I just had my uterine polyps removed last month and I had the same worry. The doctor told me the polyps didn't cause my weight gain, but the heavy hormonal fluctuations that created the polyps were the real culprit. Once the surgery was done and my hormones settled, my weight finally started coming back to normal.

I work in a clinic and we get this question often. Usually, polyps in the colon or stomach are completely silent and don't affect your weight. If you are experiencing unexplained weight gain along with fatigue, it is much more likely to be a thyroid issue or hormonal changes. Get your TSH levels checked once.

Beta, polyps don't make you gain weight, but bad digestion and bloating can make you feel heavy. I always drink lukewarm water with ajwain after heavy meals to keep my stomach clean. But if you have severe abdominal pain or bleeding, please don't sit at home, go see a doctor immediately.
