Do overhead headphones cause hair loss?

I use overhead headphones for hours every day for work calls and listening to music. Lately, I've noticed a bit of hair thinning around the top of my head. Could overhead headphones be causing hair loss?

This sounds like another silly internet myth. Friction can occasionally cause minor hair breakage if you wear them extremely tight for 12 hours a day, but real hair loss is hormonal or genetic. Go see a dermatologist instead of blaming your headphones.

If you wear them very tight, they might pull at the hair roots. I always suggest keeping the hair loose and massaging your scalp with warm coconut oil twice a week to keep the roots strong. But do not worry, a headphone cannot make you go bald.

I wear headphones during my daily evening walks and have never faced this. Hair loss is usually related to nutrition, stress, or underlying conditions like high blood sugar which affects blood circulation. Focus on your health and diet first.

No, they don't cause hair loss. At most, they might give you a funny flat hairstyle if you wear them too long. Just adjust the band so it is comfortable, and take them off every hour to let your ears and scalp breathe.

I actually asked my dermatologist at Max Hospital about this because of my long gaming sessions. He clearly told me that 'traction alopecia' only happens with extremely tight hairstyles, not from normal headphone use. Rest easy and enjoy your music.

In my line of work, we wear headsets for hours daily. There is absolutely no link between headphones and hair loss. If you are losing hair rapidly, it is likely male pattern baldness or nutritional deficiency; consult a skin specialist.

I totally get it, when you start seeing extra hair on your brush, you begin to suspect literally everything around you. Please don't worry, overhead headphones don't cause hair fall. It is probably just seasonal shedding or stress-related.
