Do opiods cause weight gain?

After starting medication containing opioids for my back injury, I've seen a gradual increase in my weight. I'm wondering if this is a known side effect. Do opioids cause weight gain, and if so, how can it be managed?

Please don't ignore sudden weight gain or bloating while taking these medicines. I once ignored similar side effects thinking they would go away, and it led to severe digestive complications. Get a proper checkup from your doctor right away.

These heavy English medicines create a lot of dryness and slow down the stomach. Drinking warm water with fennel seeds after meals can help with the bloating and constipation they cause. But always consult your main doctor first.

In my years, I have seen many people face this issue with long-term pain medications. They slow down your digestion and cause fluid retention, which looks like weight gain. Don't worry, once the doctor adjusts your medicine, your body will normalize.

Yes, they absolutely do, mostly because they ruin your gut motility and cause massive constipation. You feel bloated and heavy all the time. Speak to your doctor about a stool softener or switching the med.

Opioids can interfere with the endocrine system and slow gastrointestinal motility, leading to fluid retention and weight changes. It is highly recommended to consult your physician for a clinical evaluation rather than trying to self-manage this.

I totally understand how frustrating it is to see the scale go up when you are already dealing with pain. These medicines really slow down your digestive system. Try adding high-fiber foods to your meals to help with the bloating.

They actually trigger massive sweet cravings for some people, which makes you snack more. Combine that with a slow stomach, and you have some extra kilos. Just try to keep healthy snacks nearby instead of sweets.

Managing lifestyle becomes very tough when you are on such medications. They can cause water retention which increases weight and can indirectly affect your blood pressure. Keep monitoring your weight and get regular health checkups.

In our family, we believe in keeping our diet very light when taking heavy prescription drugs. My doctor confirmed that these medicines cause water retention and bloating. It is always best to trust your doctor's guidance on how to manage these side effects.

I was on pain meds post-surgery and noticed my face looking bloated and scale weight going up. It was mostly water weight because it went away a week after I stopped the meds. Just hang in there.

Actually yaar, they make you super constipated and slow down your body's metabolism, so gaining weight is quite common. Just drink lots of water and check with your doc if it gets too much.
