Do medicines cause weight gain?

I've gained quite a bit of weight in the last year, and I can't figure out why. I also started taking new medication for my thyroid around the same time. Can some medicines actually cause weight gain?

Some medicines like steroids or certain allergy pills can definitely increase your appetite or cause water retention. I just make sure to walk an extra 20 minutes daily and keep low-calorie snacks handy to balance it out.

Oh, tell me about it! My allergy meds make me super hungry and I just want to order bhature all the time. You have to really watch those midnight cravings when you are on certain tablets.

Yes, I faced this when I was on some hormonal pills. Along with my treatment, drinking warm jeera water in the morning and reducing salt intake really helped me manage that bloated feeling.

A lot of common psychiatric meds and blood pressure drugs do slow down metabolism. Instead of guessing or stopping the medication yourself, just ask your doctor for an alternative that doesn't affect weight.

Medicines can sometimes disturb the body's natural balance and lead to weight gain. I found that doing daily light yoga and pranayama helps in keeping the hormones and digestion stable during such treatments.

Usually, mild lifestyle changes and green tea can manage slight weight gain from daily meds. But if you are suddenly gaining weight very rapidly or feeling extremely breathless, please consult your doc immediately.
