Do magnesium supplements cause weight gain?

I started taking magnesium supplements for better sleep and muscle cramps. My friend said some supplements can make you gain weight. Can magnesium supplements cause weight gain, or is that not a side effect?

No beta, magnesium supplements do not cause weight gain. In fact, magnesium helps in managing blood sugar and metabolism, which actually supports a healthy weight. Just ensure you are taking them only if your doctor has recommended it.

Hello, I am new to this group and was thinking of taking magnesium for my muscle cramps. Does it really affect weight? If anyone has been using it for a long time, could you please share your experience?

Wait, does it? Because I literally just started taking it to fix my terrible sleep cycle. Honestly, if it helps me sleep more than 3 hours a night, I wouldn't even mind a little extra weight!

I take magnesium daily as recommended by my doctor to help manage my high BP and sleep. I haven't noticed any weight gain at all since starting it. Just make sure to get regular doctor follow-ups to monitor your overall health.

I completely understand why you would worry about this, as any new supplement can make us anxious about side effects. But rest assured, magnesium itself has no calories and does not cause weight gain. Try to discuss the dosage with your doctor to put your mind at ease.
