Do kidney stones show up in blood work?
I recently had a full blood work-up done for a general health check. If I had kidney stones, would they typically show up in those routine blood tests?

Bro, my roommate had crazy back pain last semester and thought blood tests would find it. But the doc told him blood reports only show infection or calcium levels, not the actual stone. You will need a scan or ultrasound for that, trust me.
Blood tests can indicate kidney function and look for high calcium or uric acid, which are stone-forming substances. However, they cannot confirm the physical presence of a stone. It is best to consult your doctor, who will likely advise an imaging test like an ultrasound.
Honestly, at my age, blood tests only show that my cholesterol is high and my energy is low. A blood test wont directly show a stone sitting in your kidney. It only tells if your kidneys are struggling or if some levels are off because of it.
As someone managing high blood pressure for ten years, I get routine blood work done constantly. It keeps an eye on kidney health, but when my brother had kidney stones, only an imaging scan caught it. Keep up with your doctor checkups regularly.
I track all my vitals on my smartwatch and log my blood work yearly. Blood tests are great to check kidney function markers like creatinine, but they cant detect a physical stone block. You need a proper ultrasound or CT scan for that mapping.

If you are short on time, dont waste a day getting just blood tests done expecting to find stones. Go straight to a specialist. They will write a quick ultrasound along with blood tests so you get the full picture in one go.
Haha, I wish it was that easy! If blood tests could show kidney stones, we would save so much gym-like struggle of lying down for scans. Blood work only shows if your kidney is angry, not the actual little rocks hiding inside!
