Do iron pills cause weight gain?

My doctor prescribed iron pills for my iron deficiency. I'm trying to maintain my weight, and a friend told me that iron pills can make you gain weight. Is there any truth to this; do iron pills cause weight gain?

Iron pills don't cause weight gain, but they definitely cause some major constipation and bloating, which makes you feel heavy like a balloon! I had to drink loads of water and eat extra papayas to keep my stomach happy while on these pills.

I take both thyroid medicine and iron pills, and the bloating from iron can sometimes feel like weight gain. It is very important to get your blood levels tested regularly to see if your dosage is correct. Always follow up with your doctor before changing any pills.

Nahi behan, lohe ki goli se vajan nahi badhta hai. Bas pet thoda saaf nahi hota hai kabhi kabhi. Aap goli ke sath thoda dahi aur hari sabzi khaya karein, pet bilkul theek rahega aur koi pareshani nahi hogi.

Iron pills are very cheap and effective, so don't worry about weight gain and stop taking them. Getting expensive iron infusions later because your hemoglobin dropped too low will hurt your pocket much more. Just plan a simple high-fiber diet to handle the bloating.

There is no clinical link between oral iron supplements and weight gain. Most people confuse the common side effect of abdominal bloating and water retention with actual fat gain. If the side effects are too uncomfortable, consult your doctor for a different formulation.
