Do high cortisol levels cause weight gain?

My doctor mentioned my stress levels are high and suggested it might be related to cortisol. I've also been gaining weight around my stomach lately, even when my diet hasn't changed much. Could high cortisol levels be causing this weight gain?

Yes, they absolutely can, especially around the belly area. When we are chronically stressed, our body releases cortisol which makes us crave sweet and fatty foods while slowing down metabolism. I always tell people to focus on active stress management along with their diet.

Honestly, this explains so much. During semester exams my stress levels are sky high, and I gain weight even if I am not eating much. Cortisol is definitely real and it makes me super bloated too.

Before you jump into expensive weight loss supplements, get a proper cortisol and thyroid blood panel done. You can compare prices on health apps to find a budget-friendly lab. Finding the root cause first will save you a lot of money in the long run.

It definitely plays a huge role. I have been dealing with high BP and weight issues for years, and my doctor told me that stress hormones directly impact our weight and cardiovascular health. It's very important to get a proper blood test done and consult a specialist rather than guessing.

So you are telling me it's my stress and not the midnight biryani causing this belly? Jokes apart, yes, cortisol is the culprit behind those random sugar cravings. Try to relax a bit, your body is just trying to protect you in its own weird way!

High cortisol definitely makes holding onto fat easier, especially visceral fat. While lifting weights is great, too much intense cardio can sometimes spike cortisol further if you are already stressed. Try to balance your heavy workouts with proper sleep and a clean, whole-foods diet.
