Do hcg levels rise with ectopic pregnancy?

After a recent positive pregnancy test, I'm experiencing some unusual spotting and mild abdominal pain. My doctor mentioned checking HCG levels to rule out an ectopic pregnancy. Do HCG levels typically rise, even if it's an ectopic pregnancy?

Yes, they do rise but the rate is typically much slower than a healthy pregnancy. If you are experiencing any sharp one-sided abdominal pain or bleeding, please go to the hospital right away.

From what I have read, hCG levels do rise in an ectopic pregnancy but they usually don't double every 48 hours like a normal pregnancy. Since ectopic issues can be very risky, please check with a gynecologist immediately if you feel pain.

Actually yaar, the levels do go up which is why the home test shows positive. But they don't rise properly like they should, so please see a doctor immediately to be completely safe.

My wife's doctor mentioned that the pregnancy hormone does go up even in ectopic cases, but much slower. Please skip worrying about online food cravings for now and get a scan done immediately if there is any pain.

Yes, hCG levels will increase because placental tissue is still growing, though usually at an abnormal rate. Ectopic pregnancy is a serious medical emergency, so an ultrasound and a doctor's immediate evaluation are absolutely necessary.
