Do hats cause hair loss?

Working outdoors a lot, I always wear a hat to protect myself from the sun. My friends keep joking that soon I'll be bald because of it. Can wearing a hat regularly actually cause or contribute to hair loss?

If hats caused baldness, half the policemen in India would be completely bald by now! It is mostly our age and genes playing tricks on us, not the poor cap.

Hey, relax, wearing a cap normally wont make your hair fall out. Just make sure you aren't pulling your hair too tight when putting it on, and keep the cap clean.

Actually yaar, it is a myth. Unless you are wearing a super tight helmet that literally pulls your hair out from the roots, normal hats don't do anything to your hairline.

Just buy breathable cotton caps and wash them every week with your regular clothes. The sweat and dirt are what actually weaken the roots, so clean caps solve the problem easily.

Medical research suggests that hair loss is primarily hormonal and genetic. If you are noticing significant thinning, it is best to consult a dermatologist rather than worrying about your headwear.

I have seen this question so many times in this forum. The short answer is no; traction alopecia only happens with extremely tight headwear, so normal loose hats are completely safe.

I understand the worry, but hats don't cause baldness. Just massage your scalp with warm onion juice once a week to strengthen the roots if you feel they are getting weak.
