Do greasy hair fall out more?

My hair gets oily very quickly, and I feel like I see more hair fall on days when it's extra greasy. Is there a connection between oily scalp and hair loss, or is it just my imagination?

I totally get it, seeing chunks of hair in the drain when you wash greasy scalp is so disheartening. Excess sebum can actually clog your follicles and lead to more shedding. Getting a gentle clarifying shampoo should help clear up the grease.

I used to panic because my hair felt so oily and was falling out rapidly. But when I met a dermatologist, she reassured me that it is just normal sebum buildup attracting dust, which weakens the roots temporarily. Once I started washing my hair thrice a week, the fall stopped.

I just dealt with this last month. My scalp was super oily and I was losing 100+ strands daily. I stopped putting heavy hair oils and started using a salicylic acid scalp serum prescribed by my doctor. My scalp feels so much lighter now and the shedding has drastically reduced.

According to my doctor, a greasy scalp creates a perfect breeding ground for Malassezia, a fungus that causes dandruff and hair fall. Keeping your scalp clean is crucial because excess oil can lead to follicle inflammation, technically known as seborrheic dermatitis.

For me, skipping washes for more than three days always leads to severe itchiness and increased hair fall. Now, I make sure to wash my hair every alternate day with a simple herbal shampoo. Keeping the scalp oil-free has personally kept my hair roots much stronger.

Between my late-night shifts and absolute laziness to wash my hair, my scalp looked like an oil well and my hair was falling like autumn leaves! Honestly, just washing the grease off twice a week saved my hair from completely disappearing. Don't be lazy like me!

I completely understand how stressful it is to touch your greasy hair and find strands sticking to your fingers. It used to give me so much anxiety. Just remember that it is a very common issue and washing it regularly with a mild shampoo will keep the roots healthy.

In my days, we thought applying more oil was the cure for everything, but I learned that a dirty, greasy scalp actually makes hair fall out faster. Don't let oil sit on your scalp for more than an hour. Keep it clean and dry, and your hair will remain strong.
