Do expectant fathers get pregnancy symptoms?

Currently pregnant, my husband has been experiencing some strange symptoms lately, like nausea and food cravings, similar to mine. We've heard about 'sympathy pains' or Couvade syndrome. Do expectant fathers actually get pregnancy symptoms, or is it just psychological?

My grandmother used to say that when a husband loves his wife deeply, he also feels her morning sickness. It is called Couvade syndrome, but it is mostly psychological. Our family doctor told us it's just stress and empathy, nothing to worry about.

I totally get it! My husband went through the exact same thing when I was pregnant—he gained weight and felt tired all the time. It's so sweet how closely connected partners can be during this beautiful phase of life.

When my wife was expecting our first child back in 1988, I actually used to get sudden food cravings and mild nausea in the mornings. We used to laugh about it back then. Looking back, it was just the excitement and anxiety of becoming a father.

Sometimes fathers eat the same heavy or hormonal craving food that the wife eats, leading to bloating and fatigue. I made sure to stick to a light, home-cooked vegetarian diet during my wife's pregnancy to keep my own digestion active.

I thought my sudden fatigue and stomach issues were just sympathetic pregnancy symptoms when my wife was expecting. I ignored it for months, but it turned out to be a severe ulcer. Please get a proper checkup done if your symptoms persist.
