Do diabetics crave sugary food?

My uncle, who has diabetes, always seems to want something sweet. He says he gets really strong cravings for sugary foods, even though he knows he shouldn't have them. Is it normal for diabetics to have such strong urges for sweet things?

I used to ignore my intense sweet cravings, thinking it was just my normal sweet tooth, until my sugar levels crossed 350. Please don't make the mistake I did. Go get your fasting sugar and HbA1c checked immediately if you are having constant cravings.

Yes, they do. When your body cells are starved of glucose due to insulin resistance, they signal the brain for immediate energy, which manifests as sugar cravings. It is purely biological. Go see an endocrinologist to adjust your medication.

Cravings for sweets can definitely be a sign of fluctuating glucose levels in diabetes. However, it can also indicate other nutritional deficiencies. For your own safety, please consult a qualified doctor and get a full blood panel done.

My father's doctor at the hospital explained that these cravings happen when sugar stays in the blood instead of entering the cells. He advised us to never ignore it and get his dosage adjusted. You should clearly ask your doctor about this during your next consultation.

Don't listen to people online telling you to eat cinnamon or random herbs to stop cravings. Craving sugar is a classic symptom of poor glucose management. Go to a proper doctor, check your actual HbA1c levels, and get your prescription corrected.
