Do corticosteroids cause weight gain?

My doctor recently prescribed corticosteroids for my chronic inflammation. A family member mentioned that these can sometimes lead to weight gain. Is it a common side effect of corticosteroids that I should be aware of?

Yes, they definitely cause thoda weight gain and puffiness around the cheeks! But don't worry, once the doctor reduces your dose, the extra water weight goes away quickly.

Look, steroids increase your appetite and cause water retention, so weight gain is very common. But never stop them suddenly on your own; always let your doctor taper the dose.

Corticosteroids alter fat distribution and metabolism. It is important to have your blood pressure and blood sugar levels monitored regularly by your physician during the therapy.

To handle the swelling, try to reduce salt in your daily cooking as much as possible. Drinking warm water and avoiding pickles really helped keep my puffiness under control.
