Do cornrows cause hair loss?

I've been thinking of getting cornrows for a new look, but my cousin warned me that they can cause hair loss if kept for too long. Is there a risk of hair loss with cornrows?

Don't worry too much, but yes, if they are pulled too tight, they can cause traction alopecia. Just give your scalp some breathing space between different hairstyles.

Listen, if you pull your hair back with so much tension constantly, the roots are bound to weaken. Keep it loose and don't do it continuously if you want to save your hairline.

I tracked my hair density and scalp health using a smart analyzer after tight braiding. The mechanical stress definitely weakens the follicles, so it's best to limit these styles to short durations.

Any style that places chronic tension on the hair roots can lead to thinning. If you notice any recession near your temples, it is highly recommended to consult a dermatologist immediately.

My dermatologist clearly explained that constant tension on the follicles causes scarring alopecia, which can make hair loss permanent. She advised avoiding any hairstyle that causes pain or red bumps on the scalp.

At my age, even a strong wind can cause hair loss! But jokes apart, tight braiding definitely speeds up the process, so let your scalp have some peace.

I tried all kinds of onion oils and masks when my hair started falling due to tight braids, but the only thing that worked was letting my hair loose. Avoid heavy styling for a few months and massage your scalp with warm almond oil.
