Do contraceptives cause weight gain?

I'm considering starting a contraceptive method, but my friend mentioned she gained a lot of weight after starting birth control pills. Do contraceptives really cause weight gain for most people, or is it just a myth?

My aunts told me it causes permanent weight gain, but my gynaecologist explained it is mostly just initial water retention. Trust your doctor and give your body a couple of months to adjust to the hormones.

Haan, thoda weight toh badhta hai, especially in the first few months due to bloating. Par regular walk aur clean eating se yeh easily manage ho jata hai, so tension mat lo na.

My wife faced this actually, yaar. She was feeling so bloated initially, but her doc switched her to a low-dose pill and it totally settled down in a month.

I totally get it, seeing the scale go up when you are trying to be healthy is so frustrating. But sometimes changing the brand or type of pill after consulting your doctor can stop this issue completely.

In our days also we had these worries. It is just a minor adjustment phase for the body, do not stress, keep your home-cooked meals simple and your health will remain perfectly fine.

I ignored rapid weight gain thinking it was just the pills, but it turned out to be an underlying thyroid issue. Please get a proper blood panel done instead of assuming it is just the contraceptive.

My girlfriend had the same issue and she was super stressed. Her doctor told us it just increases appetite temporarily, so keeping healthy snacks around helped her control it easily.
