Do cavities show up on xrays?

I recently went for a dental check-up and the dentist recommended an X-ray, even though I don't feel any pain or have visible issues. I'm curious if they use X-rays to spot cavities that aren't visible or painful yet. Do cavities show up on xrays?

Haan na, they show up clearly as dark spots. Sometimes they hide between the teeth where we can't see them, but the X-ray catches them easily.

Yes, they do. My doctor showed me my X-ray and it looked like a map of potholes. There is no escaping the screen, it catches everything you tried to ignore.

Yes, the X-ray is a very reliable tool to see how deep the decay has reached. While warm water gargles help keep the gums healthy, the X-ray is necessary for the doctor to plan the treatment.

I completely understand feeling nervous about getting dental X-rays done. I was so worried about the radiation, but the dentist explained it is extremely low and absolutely necessary to find hidden decay. It is very safe, don't worry.

Yes, they show up as shadow-like dark areas. It is always safest to get an X-ray if you suspect a cavity, as treating it early prevents the infection from spreading to the bone.

Yes, because decay loses calcium and density, it lets more X-ray beams pass through, showing up dark. It is standard practice to get one done before any filling or root canal to ensure we don't miss anything.

They definitely do! I had a cavity hiding right under an old filling, and only the X-ray could spot it. It is very quick and helps the dentist know exactly what to do.

Hey, don't stress too much about it! Yes, they show up clearly on X-rays, especially those sneaky ones between teeth. Just get the scan done, it is super quick and then your dentist can fix it easily.
