Do birth control pills help with perimenopause weight gain?

I'm going through perimenopause, and the weight gain is just awful, especially around my belly. My doctor mentioned that birth control pills could sometimes help manage perimenopausal symptoms. Can they actually help with this kind of weight gain, or just other issues?

Yes, some doctors prescribe low-dose birth control pills during perimenopause to stabilize fluctuating hormones, which can help manage sudden weight gain and hot flashes. However, they are not weight-loss pills, so you still have to manage your daily diet and lifestyle.

I have heard from family members that stabilizing hormones helps a lot with perimenopause symptoms. Please consult your doctor safely to see if this is the right option for you.

During perimenopause, our thyroid levels can also act up and contribute to weight gain. While birth control pills might help balance estrogen, I highly recommend getting a complete thyroid panel done as well. Regular follow-ups with your doctor are very important.

I can only share that my gynecologist prescribed me low-hormone pills last year for my severe perimenopause symptoms. While they helped stop my sudden weight spikes, I also had to strictly watch my sweet cravings and walk daily to see real results.

When I was going through perimenopause, my doctor put me on a low-dose hormone pill for a few months, and it really helped control my bloating and mood swings. Don't worry, this phase passes, just trust your gynecologist's advice.
