Do antihistamines cause weight gain?

I've been taking antihistamines daily for my seasonal allergies, which are really bad this year. I've noticed I'm feeling hungrier and have put on a little weight. Can antihistamines actually cause weight gain, or is it just me?

They can make you feel sleepy, so activity level goes down and we eat more. Just try to drink warm water with tulsi and honey for mild cold, and if you must take the tablet, make sure you don't sit idle.

Please don't ignore it if you're taking these long-term and noticing weight changes. I kept ignoring my sudden weight gain thinking it's just water, but it turned out to be a chronic allergy issue needing proper medical treatment. Go see a specialist instead of self-medicating daily.

Yes, long-term use of daily allergy tablets can cause a bit of weight gain because they increase your appetite. Try switching to a different non-drowsy formulation after asking your doctor.

Yes, some of them definitely make you feel hungrier and sluggish. It's a very common side effect.

I take them for seasonal allergies and noticed some bloating. If you have a busy desk job, try to track your snack breaks because these meds make you crave carbs when you are working late.

For regular sneezing, try doing steam inhalation with a drop of eucalyptus oil at night, it works wonders without any side effects. But if your allergies are very severe, don't experiment at home and let a proper doctor prescribe the safe medicine.
