Do all ssris cause weight gain?

My therapist suggested I might benefit from an SSRI for my anxiety. However, I'm really worried about gaining weight, as I've heard that's a common side effect of these medicines. Do all SSRIs lead to weight gain, or are there some that are less likely to cause it?

Don't believe everything you read on forums about SSRIs making everyone gain weight. Every medication affects the metabolism differently, so discuss your concerns directly with your psychiatrist.

Some options are cheaper and might have different side effects, while newer, weight-neutral ones might cost slightly more. It is best to plan your medical budget and discuss the best fit with your doctor.

My grandmother was worried these pills would change my appetite too much. But my doctor explained that some SSRIs are actually weight-neutral, and we chose one that suited my lifestyle.

No, it varies completely from person to person. Some people don't experience any weight change at all on SSRIs.

Not all of them do. Sometimes weight gain happens because people feel happier and start enjoying food more; keeping a clean diet and working out regularly can easily manage any metabolic changes.

Actually, it depends on the specific molecule you are prescribed. Some SSRIs are known to cause mild weight changes, but you can always request your doctor for an alternative if you notice any changes.

Not really, though some can definitely spark some serious midnight cravings! Just keep some healthy snacks like roasted makhana handy to avoid extra calories.
