Can you use tens during pregnancy?

My back pain has gotten really bad during this pregnancy. My physiotherapist suggested TENS therapy for pain relief. I'm concerned about the safety of using a TENS machine while pregnant. Is it generally considered safe?

I was looking this up for my cousin who is expecting. It seems you can use a TENS machine during active labor for pain relief, but you should absolutely avoid using it on your abdomen or lower back during early pregnancy. Better check with your doctor.

With this pregnancy back pain, I'd try anything to get some sleep, even electric shocks! But seriously, my doctor said no TENS machine on the back or belly during pregnancy. Stick to safe warm water bags for now.

Managing gestational diabetes means I have to be extra careful with any physical stress or therapies. My doctor advised against using TENS machines during pregnancy without direct medical supervision. Stick to safe stretches and proper diet instead.

While TENS therapy is common for muscle pain, using it during pregnancy requires extreme caution. The electrical currents can potentially affect the baby if placed near the womb. Always consult your obstetrician before using any such device.

I use TENS all the time for workout recovery, but for pregnant women, it's a different ball game. The electrical stimulation is generally not recommended around the torso during pregnancy. Try prenatal yoga or safe stretching under expert guidance.
