Can you use a tens unit during pregnancy?

I've been having some back pain during my pregnancy, and my physiotherapist suggested trying a TENS unit for relief. My concern is whether it's safe for the baby. Can you safely use a TENS unit during pregnancy?

While TENS units are sometimes used for labor pain, using them during early or mid-pregnancy is generally not recommended, especially near the abdomen or lower back. Please consult your obstetrician before using any electrical therapy device to ensure complete safety for the baby.

My wife had terrible back pain during her second trimester and we thought of using my gym TENS machine. But our doc strictly said no to using it on the back or belly because of the electrical currents. Definitely check with your gynac first.

I panicked so much when my back pain started in the seventh month and almost bought a TENS unit online. My doctor reassured me that normal stretches and a hot water bag are much safer options. Don't worry, the body aches are normal, but avoid these devices without advice.

Just like managing thyroid during pregnancy requires constant doctor supervision and tests, physical pain management also needs a professional's green light. Don't self-prescribe or use devices like TENS without your obstetrician's direct approval.

Pregnancy aches can be so tough to handle! But please be very careful with TENS machines. It is always safest to check with your doctor first before trying any electrical devices. Hope you feel better soon!
