Can you take tums during pregnancy?

I'm pregnant and suffering from a lot of heartburn and indigestion. My mother-in-law told me Tums are safe for acidity during pregnancy. Can I take Tums during pregnancy for relief, or is it best to avoid them?

I totally get it, that pregnancy heartburn can make you feel like a fire-breathing dragon. Tums are generally considered safe because they are calcium-based, but always keep your gynecologist in the loop.

My doctor actually allowed me to have a couple of Tums when my acidity was at its peak in the third trimester. They helped me sleep, but I only took them occasionally.

Yes, many doctors suggest them for mild acidity, but it is always best to double-check with your doctor first. Take care of yourself.

In our days, we had cold milk for heartburn, but these days doctors do allow mild calcium antacids. Don't worry, this burning feeling is very common during these months.

Usually, calcium-based antacids are fine, but too much calcium can cause constipation, which is already a headache during pregnancy. Try small, frequent meals first and consult your gynecologist before buying any chewables.
