Can you take stool softeners pregnancy?

Been struggling with constipation a bit since the second trimester, and it's quite uncomfortable. My doctor suggested I try to increase fiber, but I'm still having issues. Can I use a stool softener, or is that risky during pregnancy?

Try to add more fiber like oats and green veggies to your meals, and keep up with light walking if your body allows. For any medicinal softeners, check with your gynecologist before buying them.

Certain laxatives and softeners are totally fine, but some stimulant ones are not recommended during pregnancy. Just give your doctor a quick call or ask your local pharmacist to verify the formula before you take it.

My wife had thyroid issues during pregnancy which made her constipation even worse. Her doctor adjusted her thyroid meds and gave a safe stool softener after checking her blood reports. Regular follow-ups are really key.

I get so scared taking even a simple paracetamol during pregnancy, so I totally feel your anxiety. It is better not to take anything over the counter. Just call your doctor's clinic and double-check, it will give you peace of mind.

During both my pregnancies, my gynecologist prescribed a mild syrup for my digestion issues. I never took any random brand from the chemist shop without her writing it down first.
