Can you take magnesium citrate during pregnancy?

About five months pregnant, I've been struggling with really bad constipation lately. A few people suggested magnesium citrate to help. Before taking anything, I wanted to confirm if magnesium citrate is safe to use during pregnancy.

I had terrible constipation during my second pregnancy, so I understand how frustrating it is. Magnesium citrate can help, but please do not take it without asking your gynecologist first, as they can recommend the safest dose for the baby.

My sister was asking her doc about this recently during her pregnancy. He told her not to take any over-the-counter laxatives or magnesium supplements on her own. Definitely ask your doctor before buying it.

I completely panicked when I had digestion issues during my pregnancy and wanted to take magnesium citrate. My doctor told me it's actually quite common to prescribe it, but only in specific doses. Just give your doctor a quick call, you will feel much better.

Don't stress too much, pregnancy constipation is very normal. But please don't take magnesium citrate or any supplement without checking with your doctor. We want to make sure you and the baby stay completely safe.

Before rushing to buy supplements, you can try simple things like drinking lots of warm water and eating high-fiber foods. If that doesn't help, ask your doctor if magnesium citrate is safe for you to use.
