Can you take benadryl during pregnancy?

I'm pregnant and struggling with bad insomnia lately, making me feel quite restless. I usually take Benadryl to help me sleep sometimes. Can you take Benadryl during pregnancy, or is it not recommended?

Even for a simple allergy or cold, you shouldn't self-medicate with Benadryl when pregnant. Every cough syrup or antihistamine has different ingredients, so please get it checked by your doctor first.

Benadryl will probably put you to sleep faster than a boring movie! While some doctors allow it for severe allergies, don't play doctor at home. Ask your gynaecologist first so you don't wake up with a surprise.

I was researching this because my seasonal allergies are acting up too. Some sites say it's fine in limited doses, but others warn against certain ingredients in cough formulas. I've decided to just ask my doctor at my next visit to be safe.

Don't take any OTC syrups on your own to save a doctor's fee, because if any issue happens, the emergency costs will be much higher. A quick phone call to your regular clinic is free and much safer.

I know how miserable allergies can make you feel, especially when you can't sleep. Just hang in there and ask your doctor if they can suggest a safe medicine for your cold.

Please avoid taking Benadryl on your own. It is always best to consult your doctor before taking any allergy medicine during pregnancy.
