Can you take acyclovir during pregnancy?

I get recurrent cold sores, and usually I take a specific medication for it. Now I'm pregnant, and a new one just came up. Can you take acyclovir during pregnancy to treat these?

Acyclovir can be prescribed during pregnancy if the benefits outweigh the risks, but self-medication is a strict no. You should discuss your symptoms with your obstetrician, and they will decide the safe dosage.

At my hospital, the doctors are very strict about antiviral medications during pregnancy. They told me never to take any leftover tablets. Please ask your gynecologist before taking even one pill.

My daughter needed this during her pregnancy because of a severe outbreak, and her doctor prescribed it safely. But please don't take it on your own; a doctor must decide the right dose for safety.

Please be very careful with antivirals. I had a difficult pregnancy and my doctor made me consult them for every single medicine, even for skin rashes. Do not take acyclovir without a doctor's direct prescription.
