Can you sleep with a knee brace on?
I recently sprained my knee and the doctor gave me a knee brace to wear. He didn't specify about night time. Is it generally okay to sleep with a knee brace on, or should I remove it before bed?

Honestly, it depends on what your doctor advised. With my sugar issues, I am always very careful about blood circulation, especially in the legs. If the brace is too tight, it can block blood flow at night, so please confirm with your ortho first.
I usually massage my knee with warm mustard oil before sleeping to ease the stiffness. But if you have a ligament tear or severe pain, please don't just rely on home tricks or sleep in a random brace. Better to get a doctor's opinion on whether a nighttime brace is actually needed.
At 53, my knees have their own retirement plans! I tried sleeping with a brace once and woke up feeling like my leg was trapped in a cement block. If your doctor hasn't strictly told you to wear it to bed, do your joints a favor and let them breathe at night.
Through gentle stretching and light pranayama, I have found my joint pain reduces naturally. Regarding the brace, unless it is a special post-surgery immobilizer, it is usually better to remove it. Sleeping without it allows your muscles to relax and blood to flow freely through the joint.
I focus a lot on anti-inflammatory vegetarian foods like turmeric and walnuts for joint health. Regarding the brace, sleeping in it can actually make the joint very stiff by morning. Unless specifically prescribed by your specialist, it's safer to keep it off during sleep.

When I had my meniscus issue, I went to a top specialist at Apollo and asked this directly. They told me never to wear a tight day brace to bed as it can compress nerves. Always ask your own doctor clearly about what type of support is safe for night use.
Hey! Unless your doctor told you to keep it on after surgery, it's usually best to take it off before sleeping. Your leg needs some free time too! Sleep comfortably and just wear it during the day when you're moving around. 😊
