Can you sleep in hair rollers?

I want to get nice bouncy curls without using heat, so I'm thinking of trying hair rollers overnight. My grandmother used to do it. Is it comfortable or even safe to sleep with hair rollers in all night, or will it damage my hair or scalp?

I always worry that sleeping in hard plastic rollers will pull too tightly on my hair roots and cause permanent hair loss. If you really want to sleep in them, maybe use soft foam rollers instead? Just make sure they aren't pulling your scalp too much so you can sleep peacefully.

While it seems like a simple beauty routine, sleeping in tight rollers can cause scalp strain and tension headaches. When my cousin had severe hair thinning, the dermatologist at our hospital advised her to avoid tight hairstyles and overnight rollers. If you have scalp issues, do consult a doctor.

Haha, unless you want to wake up feeling like you slept on a bed of stones, please avoid hard rollers! Your neck will definitely complain the next morning. Soft satin or foam rollers are much better if you want those curls!

If you check your sleep quality on a smart band, you will notice that any discomfort like hard rollers on your head reduces your deep sleep cycles. For proper rest and recovery, keep your sleeping setup as comfortable and friction-free as possible.

I tried sleeping in plastic rollers once and it was so uncomfortable that I couldn't sleep at all. Now I only use soft silk heatless curling rods which are super comfortable to sleep in. They give amazing curls without hurting your head.

I agree with using soft foam or satin rollers instead of plastic ones. It is much gentler on your scalp and lets you sleep comfortably.

Don't believe social media posts saying overnight rollers are completely safe for everyone. The continuous tension can lead to traction alopecia over time. If you notice any hair shedding or scalp soreness, stop using them and seek a dermatologist's opinion.
