Can you put on weight with cancer?

My uncle is undergoing cancer treatment, and he's been losing a lot of weight, which worries us. We are trying to help him eat well. Is it possible for someone with cancer to actually put on weight, or is weight loss inevitable with this disease?

Yes, you definitely can, and it's a very confusing emotional ride when it happens. Many people think cancer always causes weight loss, but hormone therapies, steroids, or fluid retention can actually cause weight gain. Please know your feelings are completely valid, and do speak to your oncologist about these changes.

I have been noticing some weight gain during my therapy and it's making me so anxious. Has anyone else experienced this sudden bloating or weight increase? My doctor mentioned it might be fluid retention from the drugs, but I would love to hear if others felt the same.

Yes, weight gain happens, especially with steroid medications during chemotherapy. While home remedies like drinking warm ginger water can help with the bloating and digestion, please don't try any strict diets right now without your doctor's permission. Your body needs all its strength to heal.

Yes, hormonal therapies and steroids often lead to weight gain or increased appetite. It is important to focus on a balanced, nutrient-rich vegetarian diet with plenty of fiber and low sodium to manage any fluid retention. Always consult your oncology nutritionist before changing your food habits.

Actually, yes yaar. People think cancer means only losing weight, but certain treatments and steroids make you put on weight and retain water. It's totally normal during therapy, but definitely discuss it with your oncologist so they can monitor your vitals.
