Can you lose weight from vomiting and diarrhea?

Last month, I had a really bad stomach infection with a lot of vomiting and diarrhea for a few days. After I recovered, I noticed I had lost a few kilos. I was curious if this kind of rapid weight loss from being sick is permanent or just temporary water weight.

Yes, you will lose weight, but let's be clear—it is purely water weight and dehydration, not actual fat loss. It's highly dangerous to lose weight this way. If you are having severe symptoms, skip the internet and go to a doctor immediately.

Listen to me, don't worry about the weight scale right now. Severe vomiting and diarrhea can drain your body's strength and can be very dangerous if left untreated. Keep sipping on ORS and go see a doctor to get this infection cleared up safely.

Oh, please take care of yourself. This weight loss is only because your body is losing all its water and getting weak. Please drink electral water or salt-sugar water immediately to get your strength back, and see a doctor soon.

As someone managing PCOS, I know how frustrating weight issues can be, but losing weight through illness is not the way. It throws your hormones and electrolytes completely out of balance. Please be gentle with your body and get medical help for these symptoms.

I literally just recovered from a severe stomach flu last week and lost 3 kgs in three days. But honestly, it made me so weak I could barely stand up, and I gained it all back once I started eating. Please focus on getting fluids and recovery first.

I agree with others that this is just dangerous water loss. Make sure to drink plenty of coconut water or ORS to prevent severe dehydration while you recover.
