Can you lose diabetes by losing weight?

I've been overweight for a while, and my doctor warned me about the risk of type 2 diabetes. I'm now seriously trying to lose weight. I've heard that losing a significant amount of weight can sometimes reverse diabetes. Is it true that you can lose diabetes just by losing weight?

I ignored my weight gain and high sugar for two years, and now I have to take multiple daily medicines. Yes, losing weight helps immensely with type 2 diabetes, but please go get a proper checkup and HbA1c test done first before starting any extreme diet.

My mother always said that reducing our food portion size keeps diseases away. Losing weight definitely reduces the load on your pancreas and helps control sugar levels. However, you must always follow what your doctor advises for your specific health condition.

I am trying hard to lose weight to bring down my borderline sugar levels, but I get so anxious if my weight doesn't budge for a week. Has anyone else felt this immense pressure? Does losing just 5-10 kgs actually show a big drop in HbA1c?

Losing about 10-15% of your body weight can put type 2 diabetes into remission, especially if diagnosed recently. My physician explained that shedding fat, especially around the liver and pancreas, helps the body use insulin much better. But remember, it's about fat loss, not just losing water weight.

Don't fall for online programs claiming they can completely cure your diabetes in 30 days just through weight loss. While losing weight is excellent for control, diabetes is complex. You must verify your plan with a certified endocrinologist before stopping any medication.

Losing weight with thyroid is hard enough, but it is highly beneficial if you also have high sugar. Just make sure to get regular blood tests done to see how your levels are improving. Regular doctor follow-up is the safest way to track your progress.
